To make Copilot a better smut generator, even of CSAM, according to info leaked to 404 media last week. They’re not reporting the pedophiles who use their LLM for this either, they’re having reviewers evaluate different outputs and pick the ones that are the best fit for the user’s prompt, even for material of questionable legality. I talked about it on my channel this week, but be aware I did make a few off color jokes if you’re offended by that sort of thing.

Understand that nothing you prompt into an LLM is private. None of it. I made a video on the topic this week.

Just in the last year and a half there have been several massive public leaks of private data, on top of confusing functionality where people inadvertently shared their prompt data publicly. Now the major companies have human reviewers looking at your private stuff in order to make their LLM’s better at generating smut.

Do not enter anything into an LLM that you wouldn’t want plastered all over the public square. Some of this stuff has literally been leaked into global, public feeds.

There’s not a ton of reporting on it, but Flock has lost 100+ contracts, just in September. They’ve lost 400ish since June. This has been across 36 US states.

People are standing up, we’re just not hearing about it because the vast majority are doing so via the boring, pedestrian democratic process. And to be fair, I didn’t know this either until I did research for a video I made about the Flock buyout a week ago.

This is also a good reminder that, while you have zero political power nationally, you have a ton of power locally if you’re willing to attend city council meetings and speak.

There were lots of creepy videos in Minnesota and elsewhere of ICE thugs creepily taking photos of observers, and several have made mention on camera of ‘a database’ or ‘a system’. They’re probably not supposed to talk about it publicly, but ICE thugs are fucking stupid.

You’re not wrong. I’m thinking of buying in post-bubble potentially, but I’m not 100% sure what I’ll do yet. I do know that, by the day, it feels more and more like a good time to take the profit that’s there and wait.

The law is working slowly but deliberately. These bills, while new for now, will spread for sure.

It’s immaterial. Surveillance pricing algorithms aren’t without their flaws, and in this case, it’s relying too heavily on established patterns.

How would you know? You wouldn’t.

That’s not necessarily true. It’s ridiculously easy to find, especially in this example. Simply change your pickup address to the house next door.

People are much more perceptive about this activity than you give them credit for, and in fact, there’s a whole sub-genre of content creator that focuses on it. There are also leakers. That documentation will find its way to local authorities and become actionable when the amount of it passes a certain threshold, not unlike the number of dead kids translating to FB having to go to court.

How then can you enforce such laws?

The same way everything is enforced in billionaire-owned America: fines that, at the end of the day, are likely a minute fraction of a corporation’s profits, though some states will be heavier-handed than others. The Federal Government does not lead on any issue that is of crucial importance to the consumer anymore, so the states are where the power of regulation lies. It’s not ideal but something is better than nothing in this case.

Ultimately, how you fare in this ecosystem depends on your own digital hygiene. The best thing you can do for yourself is simply not consume these products in the first place, but that’s not really an option for many who may live in food deserts or have no options for shopping but Walmart or Target, which is why some measure of regulation is inevitable in most of the states, I think.

My recommendation is to avoid pieces of software that mine your data, like Windows, apps, and certain Internet browsers, use a VPN on any device you use to access the Internet, and 100% avoid loyalty clubs. Old-school methods are best, like making a reservation over the phone for example.

On the plus side, surveillance pricing legislation has already been introduced in (IIRC) four states just this year, and if I had to guess, we could eventually see state-level bans in at least half of the states.

This, like the electronic tags at Walmart, or Uber charging more when your phone battery is low, or Target mining your loyalty club data to surge price you, is something that they’re speedrunning to try and normalize before the law catches up.
