Also true. It is called social media, so I’m pretty okay with anything happening to any of the comments/posts I make. All the same, I do expect vaguely better behavior from moderators.

I think this will exemplify the beauty of federation. If I find out my instance mods are running all of my comments through a company’s ai model, I’ll switch instances. This is in great disparity to something like Instagram or Snapchat where every photo I post is immediately fed to ai and my only options are: be okay with it, never post, or delete Instagram.

7·2 months agoI don’t know what your experience with soulsseek has been but I’ve loved it. However, if you think the experience should be more seamless and integrated, you should program a bridge for slskd and navidrome that runs the downloaded media through MusicBrainz Picard or beets before putting it in the Navidrome library.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can Anubis and Iocane be linked?English
121·2 months agoThis may sound like a weird thing to do, but I realised that many crawlers and golems are somehow still able to get past my Anubis. I presume they have gotten smarter and are capable of using Runes.
To counter this, I want to ethereally link my Anubis to an locane setup such that:
Ether > mage tower > Anubis >Iocane > my orb
My hope is that two different filtering mechanisms one of which will actively poison and waste the golem’s energy) will protect my realm better.
I thought I’d ask before actually trying out something like this.

1·2 months agoIf you’re really interested in having all of the media locally, this is probably the move for you. I’m a big proponent for paying for a debrid service & using stremio + torrentio and only downloading locally what I KNOW I’m gonna watch again.

173·2 months agoYes but how regularly are you watching any given terabyte of video? You should look into getting some kind of data on what media is accessed and if it hasn’t been accessed in something like 30 days, get rid of it.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Do you consider the free software movement to be an anarchist/communist project?English
5·3 months agoThere are some people who are in it for what you’ve listed (flattened hierarchy, worker owned, etc) but there are others who are in it for personal ownership and control, which may align better w/ a libertarian set of values, but you’re not wrong about the ancom aspects

To my knowledge movie-web was a solid and simple piracy site based on a former piracy site (can’t remember the name) that worked roughly the same way before it got shut down. Later, movie web shut down and pstream picked up where the left off. Not long after, pstream went too. All of them built off the others and the UX was really solid by the end. Better solutions exist now, though.
