Is it actually federating yet?

181·5 months agoThat is insanity. Meanwhile I sit in my backyard right now that is so overgrown I can barely see my large dog… I should probably be shot too. They brought a tank to a code enforcement situation.
Already setup! I think the first thing I want to do is setup retrieval augmented generation. Several of my hobby ideas will require it I think. Started trying to read up on it a couple days ago and I had a serious lack of focus going on.
I’ve been kind of hoping to come across a super simple way to implement it, but haven’t exactly looked much yet.
Cool! I’ll subscribe. I’ve got about a dozen projects I’d like to build with Ollama, if I’ll get the motivation and free time who knows?
Wow, I haven’t seen that in like two decades!
Thanks for the tip! I haven’t heard of that and I’ve been looking for something to keep track of this stuff as well.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams says company targeted teens with advertisements based on their ‘emotional state’English
22·9 months agoIt is absolutely baffling that people don’t realize that people are the product. I’ve had some folks tell me that they understand and “don’t care” because the service is “free” or whatever, but then they get angry and freaked out when the platform knows exactly what they’re thinking, or at least seems to know.
There’s definitely a deficit in understanding and education on what corporate social media really does.
I had forgotten about doing that myself. I did that on a couple servers once the distros had full 64 bit builds. Does that technically count as an architecture swap in-place as well?
“Medium: Same as easy but go from the derivative to the base.”
I can’t quite recall, but I think I did exactly that with Ubuntu -> Debian once upon a time. I think Ubuntu was only a year or so old though, so there wasn’t a huge amount of divergence back then. As a bonus anecdote I also attempted a semi-successful build of Gentoo on a PPC Mac around the same time (nothing before or after that has compared in its level of nightmare).
Fix regression with saving states of user queries
Awesome, I’m really glad that’s finally fixed. That issue made my use of FreshRSS almost pointless.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Jellyfin is not just good... but *better* than Plex now?!English
2·11 months agoNope, I still use Emby myself. Although I’m in the process of switching to Jellyfin I think. I have it running separately to sort of evaluate it. Jellyfin was a fork of Emby, so there are a lot of similarities.

4·11 months agoI’ve had Infuse Pro for about 6 years and it has been an absolutely perfect app for me. I’ve used it across many different iterations of home media servers (Emby, Jellyfin, NFS, SMB, etc…)
If you use Apple devices it’s the best way to go.

46·11 months agoGreat video, thanks for posting! This guy articulated a lot of thoughts about algorithmic recommendations that I’ve never been quite able to form into coherent thoughts myself. I definitely understand why I decided to go all in with the fediverse or social web half a decade ago or so now.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I want more federation! Federated browsers? Federated github? Federated hosting providers? Federated internet? Where are them?
1·1 year agoBut that’s true of any network connected messaging protocol, making sure a message is delivered could be implemented client side. The issue with AP objects not making it to other clients / servers is more about federation discovery.

4·1 year agoI know how that is! Seems like I’m constantly wondering if I just made this or that up. 🤷🏻♂️

6·1 year agoThe developer of Pixelfed - an Instagram-alike (and now Loops.video - a TikTok like platform) announced that he is working on an ActivityPub messaging service called “Sup.” There’s nothing else really known about it except that he’s developing it. AP would actually work fairly well as a messaging protocol aside from the lack of end-to-end encryption, but that too is being worked on.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Announcing FediMeteo – Weather in the Fediverse!English
2·1 year agoThat’s a really cool use for snac! It’s perfect for something so straightforward and uses so little resources that I would imagine if you eventually have the entire planets weather forecasts being published it would still only use a tiny amount of bandwidth and power!

I always struggled with that word too, but remembering it like that will probably fix that issue for me. I don’t really have many opportunities to use the word “medieval” though.
