First of all, that’s assuming I wasn’t mad, or doing something about it, before this all happened. Just because I reference a recent outrage doesn’t mean that I’m not aware of, or was working against, previous ones.
It’s also not a very good thing to say? Like, if that’s what radicalizes someone and gets them to wake up and do something, that’s good, right? Like people and outrage don’t count unless they’ve been doing it the longest for the most obscure reasons?
Secondly, I’m saying those people being oppressed? The kids in cages, people being arrested? Exploited? Shot? Killed? Tortured? Those people are Americans, too. So people who are like “yeah fuck em all” are in favor of those things happening. They are in favor of ICE and Trump and everything else because they only want the house of cards to fall, and they don’t care about collateral damage.
Or, maybe, there’s some people who don’t like those things, think they are terrible, but have compartmentalized “victims of the system” into a very different hole than “Americans”. They are these atrocities and don’t think of the people being deported as “American”, see people being shot and don’t think of them as “Americans”. They only associate “American” as the cop with the gun, not the person being shot.
If we going to criticize and laugh at the right for having cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy, as we should, we should look out for our own.
So when you say or think “fuck Americans, fuck em all I hope they burn”, you need to either accept the collateral damage or change your stance, because I for one an not going to do the job of the Right’s propaganda machine and think of these people as non-American.
