Looking for something that is kind of whiteboardy-pinteresty way of creating idea boards from images, text, links, etc. that isn’t tied to a subscription and I have full control of. Any ideas?
I’m looking for something that is less linear than Obsidian, but I do like Obsidian a lot for other things.

Have you tried the canvas on Obsidian?
I usually use that for mood boarding. Each box acts like a note in itself, so you can add images with texts.

You are correct. The source code for Obsidian is proprietary, but a lotta FOSS-friendly folks give them a pass since it’s all plaintext Markdown etc on the backend.

Proprietary software is proprietary no matter how “nice” it is. It should not be advertised in FOSS communities and falsely presenting it as “FOSS adjacent” is harmful to the movement IMO.
There are many places so called “good proprietary apps” can be promoted and discussed.
Yeah I’m dumb. I use Obsidian daily but never actually tried Obsidian Canvas. Just played around with it just now and it’s perfect. Thanks! /thread
Obsidian is not actually open source, but its open source alternative, Logseq has canvas as well!
Interesting. I’ll take a look. Maybe I’ll keep on Obsidian for work and logseq for personal stuff
