It’s pedantic, but you are not your computer. They don’t collect (according to them) PII other than phone numbers.

I was diagnosing a network bottleneck at a customer site that didn’t make any sense. Literally everything had gigabit connections except one block of cubicles, but all the devices were connected to the same subnet router for that part of the building. Started tracing wires like you did and found that someone didn’t have a long enough cable when building the office and installed a 10 megabit linksys switch in the drop ceiling to connect two short cables. Rather than fix the cable, the customer just went to Best buy and bought a gigabit Linksys switch to replace it… A multi-million dollar operation is being held together by a $10 switch…
I work on web software professionally and this is a pretty minimal list that is completely justifiable for maintaining operations. If you can’t answer basic questions like “what are users doing with the app?”, you can’t make intelligent decisions about how to improve it.
There’s a lot of the same stuff here: https://legal.lemmy.world/privacy-policy/
I don’t know anything about this app or company so I’m not going to defend them, but there aren’t any real red flags here. If this amount of data collection bothers you, you really should stop using the internet in general.
Destin works for defense contractors and he’s never been shy about his interest and involvement in weaponry. He has a bible quote at the end of his videos. I seriously doubt I would agree with him about pretty much any politics and definitely not his personal beliefs, but he keeps his channel pretty strongly focused on the episode’s subject without bringing his personal views into it. He seems to do the channel because he likes geeking out about nerdy stuff and wants to share that love with others.
I personally feel that the knowledge he’s sharing is more important than knowing we probably disagree on some things. If he starts including prayer time or turns his channel into military porn, I’m out. But his channel is a positive influence for now, IMO.
Rober is different. He acts like cool science bro that worked for NASA and wants you to think he’s Bill Nye or something. But he seems to be doing it for views and to push the stuff he’s selling. He doesn’t seem genuine. He’s at risk of turning into a prank bro channel if his quality goes downhill.
They’re bots
Woah, dial it it back a bit. We’re not talking about racial discrimination or violence. OP said people were talking behind their backs and provided no additional details. If you file a HR complaint just because you saw someone whispering while looking at you, you’re 100% a narc. If you file a racial discrimination lawsuit because you’re a minority and the company isn’t firing people you don’t like, you’re the worst kind of person. If there’s more to the story, OP didn’t share it.
HR exists to protect the company. When you raise a problem to them, you are the one responsible for the problem being put on record. This means you are the problem. Even if you go to HR and they do something about it, you still lose because your coworkers will steer clear of you for being a narc and any chance at a career is pretty much gone. Either work the problem out with your coworkers yourself, ignore it and keep your head down, or find a new job.
I’m 100% against the death penalty, but a gun death seems the way to go. A desert eagle pressed against the temple will guarantee the job is done correctly and death is instant. It’s messy, but killing someone shouldn’t be easy to handle.
But if had to choose my way, I’d choose a bottle of good whiskey and a fistful of opioids.
Dave Chappelle did that with a blind black man that joined the Klan (back in the day before he went off the deep end)
That’s early access selling DLC.
Bought a house in 2012. It’s now worth almost 3x what I paid for it then. So wildly unfair.
Epic is just a troll company. They donated to Godot when it served as a jab in the side of their competition (unity). Their entire business model is to inflict Stockholm Syndrome on their users via free games.
Can you short an IPO?
That’s the same kind of logic you use about how much you saved when you buy something on sale. Would have saved more if you didn’t buy it at all; Israel would collect more tax money if they didn’t give them massive subsidies and tax breaks.
https://notion.so It’s a web-based editor with a good android app. Has basic formatting, plugins/integrations, and dark mode. It’s free for individual use cases. Has some nice paid features for collaboration and business use cases, though the free plan still allows sharing and concurrent editing.
E: noticed this is in self hosted after posting. Maybe not what you’re looking for, but it’s a good service if you’re ok with that.
It made you feel something. Now sit there quietly and think about why that is. What are you getting frustrated with? Why is it bothering you? Unfounded rage is trying to tell you something about yourself. There’s a reason, but you have to be able to be honest with yourself to figure out what it is. Once you can begin to understand it, you can begin to find ways to manage it.
If I’m trying to pass on a dotted yellow (legal) and my car thinks I’m drunk and kills the engine or governs me to 10 mph, I’m fucked. Remotely stopping a car without situational review is super dangerous (for humans in them).
They cited their sources and included direct quotations from the bill. Are you saying any of their claims about what the bill says are untrue? It’s good to have a healthy amount of skepticism, especially for groups with known biases, but what’s your point in calling this out here?
It’s not that simple, at all. Who pays the office rent? The insurance premiums? The corporate taxes? Buying equipment? Paying for time off? Etc.
