I don’t have much to say, so…hey there.
I work for Amazon corporate. I can emphatically agree that right now, and for the past few post-COVID years, Amazon’s only obsession is near term quarterly profits for stakeholders by any means necessary. To hell with long term investments. They are slowly sabotaging themselves internally with a lot of unpopular and frankly idiotic and nonsensical decisions that will ultimately result in cascading failure after failure. The enshittification continues.
I recently came dangerously close to having to use LinkedIn as my job was up in the air for awhile due to RTO shenanigans. I knew it was always a site for shilling but when I reactivated my account to update my resume, my God the amount of corporate back patting was insane. People I knew IRL as down to earth hardworking folks, were shilling so hard for a company that couldn’t give two fucks less who they are and were using every buzz word from the white-collar, salaried company bootlicker playbook in every post.
Now, I know that’s “the game” and if you want to get ahead you have to play, so I can’t blame them for grinding, but at the same time, fuck that. I guess I’m fine being where I am and never moving up because I refuse to play that BS.
Even then it’ll probably just be from one town to another very close by thus really only useable for a small subset of people. We need trans continental high speed railways not puddle jumpers

Only reason I use Brave is for my iPhone (which I am already planning to jump back to Android when it’s time for a new phone) because I can listen to YouTube videos/music in the background and no ads when going through the browser (another reason I’m going back to Android is for Revanced). Everything else is FF
Yup. Pirating is about filling a need where companies sorely lack in providing services. When a company provides a shitty service or offers no viable alternative to obtaining something I would gladly pay for, pirating bridges that gap.
It’s not so much that they’re out of touch (though they are) as it is that they just don’t give a fuck. Any way to return a profit or bump the stock price a few cents is all that matters.
So, any news regarding a tech company is not, in your eyes, “tech news”?

I believe everything to be temporary. Both the constant discussion about Reddit and the somewhat confusing layout that sometimes makes it difficult to know where you are until you’re in there ready to comment lol.
Lemmy is still new(ish) so it’s going to have some growing pains in the UI to get used to and will evolve over time. And the whole debacle with Reddit is still fresh on everyone’s minds and people are looking for some kind of justice/schadenfreude for having to basically abandon something they got used to (I’m including myself in this) for a long time.
All in all, I don’t mind for the time being because I know it’s only temporary, but if, in a couple of weeks, it’s still over-saturated with Reddit posts (outside of the communities that are dedicated to discussing it) then I’ll probably get annoyed lol.
On a side note/unrelated: I was actually against Lemmy at the beginning of June when everything started hitting the fan. Nothing personally, just that I was against moving to it because it was confusing. I’m glad that Reddit fucked up so royally that it basically forced me to try and learn the ins and outs of it so I could quit that toxic platform. Not only has this place been a great fill-in, but it has that certain “wild west” feeling (I know others have mentioned this as well) that I haven’t felt since the late 90s/early 2000s.
I’ll give them the benefit of a doubt and say they still aren’t used to how magazines/communities work here and didn’t notice they were commenting within a community dedicated to the very thing they don’t wish to see.
It’s a very big benefit I’ll grant you, but I’ll give it to them all the same.
Not sure how it is in other countries, but I always assumed that a “life” sentence at least in the US just meant anything over 25 years
