Ubuntu started and stayed great for many years. Now I feel it’s coasting on the name it rightly earned. It was my daily driver but I left after frustration with firefox snap and some networking malarkey I don’t care to recall. There are just better maintained distros out there.
And Switzerland just closed their instance in part due to what they claim is a declining user base.
I’ve only seen Mastodon slowly creeping up, not decline.
“We’ve also closed the wheelchair ramps as the stairs are more popular.”
Sometimes avoiding corporatism or maintaining your privacy feels like an accessibility issue (I’m looking at you, open source projects who direct their community to Discord).
About half the ads I see on YouTube are already within the videos they post. I wonder what the overall ratio is of YouTube ad revenue versus in-video ad revenue.
Yes, but neither do many of the large open source projects that aren’t funded by Google.
Yes, officer, these two right here.
I think official instances should be fairly small, no? They shouldn’t allow users from outside Mozilla onto their instance. The point is that they federate and can interact with a wider audience from an official source.
You didn’t mention: caring for elderly parents, getting out of an abusive relationship, working two jobs, having a disabled kid, having a chronic illness, being in a legal fight with a neighbour, the list goes on. How many hours a week does one of those take? What if you have two?

It will give me hope if this flops, because maybe then the reason people stay with Twitter is the network effect, and not anything actually to do with its rancid owner.
Whoops we turned the heat up too quickly and the frogs noticed. Just turn it back down for a bit then begin heating up again, just a little slower this time.
You can automate the same way with torrents, can’t you? I mean, you can even use indexers of both types at the same time.
Is there a phone number I can call to check if I am?
Whoops, somehow it got turned on again 🤷♂️

Companies don’t just think about paying customers, they also consider future paying customers. Making an accepting environment can broaden appeal and, at least to me, it makes sense why they would make this change. Don’t want a beard? Don’t choose a beard. Simple.
