Yeah I can imagine Reddit banning and/or controlling outside communities if they feel like they’re “threatened” I know that’s not the right word but that’s the first thing that came to mind if that makes sense 😅

He probably did join a community/instance that are more “on the mean side”. I just hope Lemmy being one of the more civil social media out there lasts long lol.

You can post a wholesome post on Reddit and someone will come along being hostile, but then the people will down vote them to oblivion which never fails to make me laugh. I’m perma banned on Reddit for something I don’t remember but I’m pretty sure what I’ve said wasn’t even all mean just pointed out a flaw or something like that 😅

From what I’ve seen so far during my short time in Lemmy, there doesn’t seem to be any fuss about mods (or lack thereof) being power hungry and that’s good. And the people I’ve interacted with so far seemed to be helpful most of the time, whether I’ve got a gardening related question. You can’t escape hostility anywhere so you just gotta have to eat those sometimes but we move on. I’ve also gotten the “Reddit cares” bot message because I seemed to have commented something about Stardew valley which wasn’t even that bad, but I don’t remember what I said but I know what I said wasn’t bad to incur such a bot sent my way lol. Glad you (and I) found this place and hope to use this for years to come and hopefully no Lemmy gatekeepers tells us we can’t be here 👋🏽
