This is kind of cheesy probably but I upgraded to the Pixel 9 Pro XL and added on the Pixel Watch 3 (45mm), as well as the Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds the year before last. I had exclusively used cheap budget Android phones and wired earbuds before. I did already have a Samsung Watch 5 but I got the Pixel Watch 3 for the total current generation ecosystem experience at the time. It is so much more elevated than my scene prior to that. The Pro 2 earbuds are fricking phenomenal. I sleep with them every single night without any discomfort whatsoever and both buds are still in my ears when I wake up virtually every day. Anyway, I was shocked at how much more pleasurable it made my interaction with personal tech. I will likely never spring for all new gadgets again but I will continue to buy the flagship level devices from now on, even if I’m buying them a couple of years old on Swappa.

I agree with this. I have a friend who is a pediatric dentist and she said to get a sonic toothbrush and use it the rest of my life. It immediately made a difference and I credit it and regular thorough non-alcohol mouthwash rinsing with keeping dental infections at bay, which I was prone to beforehand.

Depends on location. I wouldn’t leave my doors or windows unlocked in any major US city with a population of 100k or more. I live in NY but about three hours north of NYC in a small village of 2500. I never lock my doors and have no fears whatsoever.

I was a daily Reddit user for over a decade. However, the platform got so ridiculously judgy and restrictive that it was impossible to use, not fun, and caused me a lot of anxiety. I literally could not post the most innocuous of comments without being banned. It was infuriating and ultimately completely unnecessary. I miss the neverending content but it’s not worth the bad feelings that come with it. I still utilize it via Google search results when I’m trying to figure something out but for my own social media interactions I’m Lemmy 💯

This is a question we’ve faced in the queer community forever. As LGBTQ people there’s a lot of blur between sex/gender. Bars have gotten into hot water with the community over the years for being sex/gender exclusive.

However, in the instance of a sexual environment, like a bath house or fetish club, is such segregation legitimate? For example, I am solely gay and only interested in biologically male genitalia. I completely support trans men politically but if I am in a sexual situation I am only interested in men with penises. However, my husband loves trans men sexually and finds men with vaginas hot af. So IDK. I guess that if I went to a gay sex club and there were trans men there that’s simply not my particular jam, like there are gonna be other cis gender guys there that aren’t going to be my thing either. But ultimately sexual environments would be the only acceptable segregation I can think of off the top of my head.

Also, note that there used to be an incredibly important annual lesbian music event, the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, that ran from 1976 to 2015 that arguably died because of their exclusion of trans women. From 1991 forward the festival, which was on private land, had a trans exclusionary policy that divided the attendees.

I am personally not against the death penalty for some crimes if the culprit is indeed responsible but there are too many people in prison for crimes they didn’t commit already, so the burden of proof needs to be exceptional. Also, I’ve heard before that it’s actually more costly for states and tax payers to impose the death penalty because of all the built-in appeals, with the costs of the court system and attorney fees, than it is to house someone in prison for life. I further think that those convicted should have the option to choose the death penalty and type of execution for themselves, á la Gary Gilmore.

I deleted my Reddit account after a decade a couple of months ago but I used Boost the whole time I was on the site, even after they supposedly put the kibosh on third party apps. The only issue was that if I wanted to post anything that had an attachment I had to use the official Reddit app or website.

I gave up on Reddit after a decade last month because I could no longer post ANYTHING without getting banned. It became a much bigger source of stress than it was informative or entertaining. My mental health has been much improved since I deleted my account.

I quit Reddit and deleted my account after nearly a decade last week. I just found it to be a source of consistent stress. It got to the point where the most innocuous comments kept getting me temporarily banned from subreddits. The final coffin nail was when somebody posted an article about how the Trump administration scrubbed all the information on HIV/AIDS from government health websites. I replied in the comments, “Double plus good.” Apparently Redditors thought that I was endorsing this censorship as a good idea and downvoted me. So to clarify, I edited my comment and said underneath, “For those downvoting me, read the novel 1984 by George Orwell.” That’s all. I didn’t say, “You fucking idiots need to read a goddamn book!” I simply cited the reference for my original comment. For this statement I got a three day ban not just from the subreddit but all of Reddit due to harassment. The ban was automatically imposed by the bots, so I had an opportunity to appeal and have a real person review it. I did so, fully expecting anybody who actually looked into it to be reasonable, but they kept the ban in place, so I decided enough was enough.
