My system once refused to boot, because I deleted a partition and didn’t remove it from fstab. Thankfully it was an easy and fast fix but I would expect it to just boot and give an error.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Experienced Linux users, what are you using?English
2·2 months agoLimited only in the about the amount of packages and major updates have not yet destroyed anything on my computer for the last 2 years. The reason I have it on my laptop is to be honest… I put it there a year ago before hearing of Cachy, and I only want the laptop for uni which I got for free since it was family electronic junk before used for heavy mechanical engineering computing for which it is now not usable. All in all it gets the job done. It has IntelliJ and most software is aimed at Ubuntu if they have Linux support, so I don’t have to think when I have to install VPN a day before exam or something.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why did you move from Windows to Linux?English
1·5 months agoI grew up with Windows and I switched, because my installation got broken (updates didn’t work), it later got hacked, (I use there is nothing to lose mindset for piracy), and I was too annoyed with Windows. I wanted more privacy and performance from my device, so Linux experience was a nice surprise as it turned out to be so much better.

52·7 months agoLinux is my only real love, but as much as I love it I am not ready for Arch. Therefore my estrogen after a month long trial sits on my shelf. Currently on Mint and confused as fuck. Any idea where I can get SERMs?

Can I use it to run pirated games through WINE and Lutris?
Troubleshooting for friends or getting paid for playing a kernel level game in my case.
They charge only those who are not technically literate enough to transfer to Linux. Cracking Windows is a piece of cake but if someone can’t do that they probably will not switch.
Windows is already basically free using the user as a product
I tried it -> couldn’t figure out how to get rid off vertical tabs -> uninstalled -> installed Librewolf

Linux@lemmy.ml•How I gave up a one-game addiction to switch to 100% Linux (long story warning)English
2·1 year agoI was disgusted by Riot adding kernel level 24/7 spyware. That was the last straw for me solidifying my decision to quit League. After a month I’ve installed Linux on another SSD and had so much more fun with it than in LoL. It can be a little bit frustrating but that’s also why I played LoL and it’s so much healthier dose of frustration. Eight months daily driving Linux, 5 months completely clean of LoL, social life improved a LOT and a question of a scholarship is now how high and not if.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is KDE actually good or it is overrated? Or I was just unlucky because of prebuilt distros?English
31·1 year agoKDE is just KDE. It has clear pros and cons. Hopefully one day they will take care of the cons.

2·1 year agoHeck I didn’t even know Lemmy existed a week ago. Nothing is worse than not knowing. Curious people will check it out and if they like it they will stay. It would be better with a link to a beginner guide but it’s still for the better.

1·1 year agoBy reddit? There are many LGBTQ+ subreddits, so I find it weird. Or is it a new thing with USA burning?
I switched from Mint to CachyOS also as a developer. As I do a lot of piracy I depend on Bottles and flatpak to play pirated games a bit more securely. When flatpak had an issue a few months back with signing their programs bottles didn’t work properly as I had different versions of Nvidia drivers. Up to date native and almost up to date flatpak. I am not sure how others distros handled this, but be prepared that updates might break something. Study a bit about AUR if you decide to go there and try out Cachy for a bit before fully switching on a spare disk or something. I wanted to run a local LLM and virtualbox but I had problems with that likely due to my kernel??? So I am not sure how well it works with docker. All in all, try it out and expect a slight increase in difficulty.
