This. I am totally anal about any specs or spots on my screens. Smudgy fingerprints are an abomination.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
3·18 days agoMy first couple of programming classes were in Pascal. Then there was the third class where the professors had written their own pseudo language that existed only on the chalkboard and in their own heads. At least I learned recursion from them. I had to teach myself every language I ever used on the job. I was EE instead of CS, so I suppose I shouldn’t complain too hard, perhaps there were more practical classes deeper into the CS tree.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anyone else noticed how search quality on YouTube and Google have worsened?
1·4 months agoI will say that YT is brilliant and seems to know that when I have a buzz on late at night I want to listen to 80s MTV videos. I listen to one song and then YT is like “here is a playlist with every song you ever searched for from that era.”

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Am I the only one that believe the US has to go through some sort of painful transition/civil war/revolution to fix it? Is reforms from Democrats enough?
1313·6 months agoThe Democrats so rarely have full control of the executive and legislative branches, and when they do it is by such slim margins that the most right-leaning Democrat has the whole thing by the balls.
Looks at Obama’s Presidency: Democrats had a single vote margin in the House for only 41 days. That single vote was an Independent (Joe Lieberman). We would have had single payer health care if not for him. What we got disappointing but it was a lot better than nothing. Outside of those 41 days everything had to be a compromise with the Republicans.
I think we need to stop the “both sides are the same” stuff until we’ve actually given the Democrats a big margin in both houses for an extended period so that we give the left leaning members an opportunity to get some things moving.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a scam that's so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?
115·6 months agoI like tipping (in the US). I feel like servers would be a lot less friendly if they weren’t so directly incentivized to be nice. Plus I’ve been treated somewhat gruffly by servers in countries that do not have tips. Maybe that is just dislike of U.S. citizens.
Rib Eye. Oh my, how I miss them. I don’t think I have grilled steaks since before Covid. Fucking wings from Aldi’s is our “let’s splurge and grill out” meal now.
Tons of kids, similar to every year prior. Everyone was polite, especially the older kids. We had to reduce to one piece of candy per kid towards the end as we were running out. Then we had to reverse to “take a handful” just before lights out.
