Feed and water them regularly. Don’t let them die. If you can make them happy, that’s good too.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever had an experience you can't explain?
6·10 months agoTotally, I was at the beach, and this guy walked up…well, I say “walked” but he didn’t really use his legs all the way. And as she, wait did I say it was a guy?, well anyways they turned the thing on and it was SO LOUD and I swear, all the waiters dropped their watchamacallits. Wait, maybe it was at a restaurant? Hmmm…

10·10 months agoIt says the current tech is only 15% efficient vs current AC which is 20-30%, so no it would be more expensive to run. Since it doesn’t exist as a product yet, we can’t really compare initial installation costs, and probably not maintenance costs either. Hopefully they can improve on the efficiency, but there may be a theoretical maximum efficiency and I have no idea if that’s higher than 30% or not

42·10 months agoCould vampires be turned down for the position because they physically are not able to carry out the job? Or would that be supernatural discrimination?
If you’re like me, when you were in high school, wasn’t it really important what grade someone was in? Like you’re a junior, you’re not going to hang out with some FRESHMAN, right?
But then, when you got to college, there was this sudden shift, and now it doesn’t really matter what year someone is in? I remember that feeling, like “oh, we’re all just college students, who cares if I started a year before someone else.”
If you can relate to that experience, feeling that shift of “oh, turns out that didn’t really matter” then I promise you have another one coming soon, when you get out of college and get a job and go “oh, who cares when someone graduated college, even if they started at the same time. We’re all just doing our thing now.”

8·11 months agoI made a new computer in November, and while I didn’t try Mint (I don’t think) I installed 3 or 4 different versions if Linux. In them, I installed steam and Nvidia drivers, but most of my game library said they weren’t playable. If I didn’t have kids I could have spent more time and gotten it working, but is Mint different? Would they have been playable on it?

IT systems need a way to pre-enter an account deactivation, and when HR sends a text to the system it makes it live, or something. I’ve been the IT guy who was told to disable an account, and the user found out before the news was broken so they asked me what was going on. No bueno.

75·1 year agoPeople who watch tutorial videos only get on, watch the video and then leave. How are they supposed to make tons of advertising revenue from that? No, we must sacrifice that class of video from the platform, in pursuit of the almighty dollar.

203·1 year agoActually, I saw enough comments about people switching to Linux that I finally said “what the hell” and took the plunge! Very glad I did, as I read more and more crap Microsoft is doing.
And if you don’t like comments that won’t change anything and just annoy people…maybe you should reevaluate your bellyaching 😄

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your typical "stand-by" mode for your computer when you're not using it?
9·1 year agoDamn, I was going to upvote the comment that says “my computer is on and running, 24 hours a day” but nobody said it yet 🙁 sorry Earth…
Four years of only 2-3 hours of sleep a night doesn’t sound sustainable. Is that 30-40k distance something you have to drive? If so, I think you’re gonna fall asleep at the wheel eventually.
