Maybe for you, but there are use cases where traffic data isn’t vital, like driving in small or medium sized towns where traffic doesn’t ever get too bad. Or road trips where there is only one feasible route, and any other way would take hours longer.

I think they really mean “I just don’t want to see black people, but that sounds bad, so let me try to come up with something I think sounds better.”

To get out of those spirals, I just remind myself that I’ve probably forgotten hundreds of things other people probably regret saying/doing, and odds are most people probably forgot mine. Even if I’m sure someone didn’t forget it, I doubt they ever think about it anymore.

Ah, but as you say, people only care when they’re “going to” lay in it, meaning they’re not in the bed yet. Once you’re in bed, you pretty much never need to specify the left or right side, you can say “shit, i spilled a drink on your side!”

So, since we only care about left and right sides while we’re not in bed, I say who cares about the in-bed perspective. What matters is how it is oriented while you’re standing up and looking at it. So that’s how I’d assign left and right side.

Even now, presumably years later, you still feel bad about it. I’d say you’re good, every single one of us has done things (often involving inappropriate actions) we look back on and regret. I’d like to go ahead and preemptively express my concerns that this technology could be used to create convincing videos of a person dropping multiple mini doughnuts on the floor, at which point they start crying, sit down, and then start eating the doughnuts off the floor. If such a video ever surfaces of me, we’ll know my fears were well founded.
