That’s what I’m thinking, been on pretty much straight Google since my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, moto g 2013 Google edition, then all pixels, but I’ve got / love my MacBook Pro and having an iPhone would probably complement that a bit.

I’ll stick to Frigate… Wife and I were like “ya, no” when that aired

Yep, I didn’t get my dedicated room, it just didn’t work out but I’m maximizing the space I have to work with.
TV is supposed to be delivered/installed today, hoping that goes smooth. Not something I would normally do, but these things are gigantic.

in our case the primary seating position is about 13 ft from the screen making the larger screen a little more important due to the layout. The couch is aligned with the side speakers where they can be and that’s where the seating is

For me, for my use case it’s primarily because of the size TV I want. Mine is going in the basement on a wall where I want the biggest TV I can afford. That means I could get an 83" screen in OLED or a 98-100" QLED. 15" difference is pretty dramatic.

Combined over 20% last November, great times!!
Combined means we have:
first 1k kwh rate Above 1k kwh rate
And the above 1k kwh changes seasonally.

Indiana price increase in 2025 ~20% (I believe the new rates went into effect in November, and this does not include a base increase for having your house connected to the grid. I believe it was $10/mo increase making that % even larger.

100% this I do everything I can to ignore shorts
Our bowl works pretty well, and is not tracking our data!
This would be pretty cool, if you build it I’ll come :)
I moved away from Strava when they first started putting stuff behind a paywall, and just keep everything inside Garmin. But can’t stand that they’ve come up with connect+ BS

Ya, I get it, and anything smart now needs to be able to work with home assistant locally.
If we had to do it over again we’d have likely gotten something different, but the features you do get can be useful!

Ya, hard disagree here, while 100% the new features could have been kept in device, vs cloud but the difference between our (770?) that just bounces around until it runs out of battery (and gets stuck in the SAME place Everytime it hits that spot vs. the newer one vacuums the whole floor and can be told to avoid the problematic area(s) is pretty huge.
Now, the new one has a host of its own issues but when it works it’s a much better product that produces much better results.
All that said I think the software has gone to crap over the years and the newer (i7) actually is less reliable than it was the first 6-8 months we owned it.

I use Facebook behind as many adblockers as I can, I use social fixer on top of that (browser extension that helps prune FB even more)
On my phone, in the app, this doesn’t prevent them from suggesting friends, suggesting reels, suggesting random people or pages to follow
I use fb mostly for groups not just telling everyone what I’m doing or caring about what everyone else is.
But I make it to 1-3 things I have to hide (x out of) and I just bounce, close and pause the app
Like if I open fb and I immediately see a post asking me to follow something I just get out and open lemmy…
Screw meta
I run PiHole in my house I VPN to my house when away to get that sweet ad blocking I run unlock origin I run social fixer
I don’t see actual ads in FB just their BS they want me to interact with over my actual feed

Sweet, will my bill go down?

Should be pretty easy for those 600k people to find other living wage jobs that will allow them to keep buying stuff off Amazon.
/s

What if they just ask your age as step 1 of the setup?
Luckily I live out where nobody rings my door bell :)
Unless it changed recently if you already have 3rd party cameras, it’s all but useless for any of those features. I am using Blue Iris/amcrest cameras and when I upgraded to a UDMP I was excited to try it with the new 3rd party camera support, but I can’t really do anything but record. No detection stuff. Ended up only adding one camera and giving up.
And their cameras, are damn expensive. I have 6 cameras outside covering most of my house. Entireity, swapping over to unifi ones is not in the budget.

I know JBL has wifi enabled bt speakers that would be an all in one. You’d still need your phone to initiate it. But being wifi it should be fine to walk away after starting the stream.
Any assistant (assuming they’re still available) would be able to play music at night (a used Google mini) or similar.
We were building our house when my wife was pregnant, I put ceiling speakers in all the bedrooms so that is what we used. I built a diy whole house audio system which we did use to play sounds/music at night in my kids room.
This is a real problem… Like I’m afraid to watch certain things knowing full well I want it to be a one and done, but if I click on it LITERALLY EVERY OTHER RECOMMENDATION IS A DUPLICATE OF THE RANDOM VIDEO for days or until I start interacting with it to stop seeing them.
Like WTAF, I shouldn’t have to manage my feed that hard. Maybe if I watch 3 or 5 videos of the same topic or from the same creator you can start recommending them.
But even then, 3-5 watches of a rabbit hole one random Tuesday does not mean I’m suddenly interested in fishing for the rest of my life !
