Ehhhh…Kanban is much older than Agile even if they tried to subsume it and say it’s an agile technique, so that’s sort of right. But kanban vs “scrum” - which virtually everyone means when they say “agile” - is fair.
I’m just a guy, my dudes.

YAML might be more readable than JSON, but it’s absolutely not easier to work with, either to write from scratch or troubleshoot. And honestly, for my purposes that doesn’t even make it easier to read. It’s easier to read if I’m showing it to my wife because there are fewer semicolons. As soon as you want to do anything with the information you’ve read, it’s garbage. YAML sucks, and I’ll just link to a much better rant than I can ever come up with: https://ruudvanasseldonk.com/2023/01/11/the-yaml-document-from-hell
Second off, if you’d been using Zwave in Home Assistant for many years, you’d know they’ve changed their integration (no wait! It’s an add-on now! No wait, it’s also an integration still too!) multiple times, including breaking changes. That’s what I’m talking about. Of course I know Zwave is a protocol - it’s a protocol that Hubitat supports better. They also support Zigbee better (yes I use both). Admittedly part of that is built in hardware, but also it’s a better UI, a consistent UI, and not just… changing how things work so old hardware doesn’t work anymore.
I dunno man, we can disagree on HA’s choices but maybe make sure you even know what you’re talking about before being a dick for no reason. Then again, you opened with being a dick about me being the problem because I “can’t grasp YAML” when I said I don’t like it so I don’t even know why I’m engaging. Just piss off.
I’d argue it’s a bear and I still use it. YAML is just fucking awful and I’m glad they’ve been hiding it more and more over the years but it’s still there. Zwave is still wildly confusing compared to something like a Hubitat which is just plug and play (guess who has to just rebuild his Zwave stuff from scratch). It’s also insanely organized where add ons are different than integrations, and are hidden in different menus, as are system functions and just… It’s a mess from UX POV. It’s also a nightmare to try to interact with the codebase or documentation or even ask questions, much less make a suggestion. As an aside to address the point of the article, I have absolutely zero worry that they will ever forget about power users, because I, and many other power users who have interacted with Paulus on boards before agree he is kind of an asshole who absolutely does not understand why anyone would want to do anything different than how he imagines it - including documentation or UX or whatever. Home Assistant is totally safe for power users.
Now of course I’m not trying to say it’s bad, just that it is kind of a bear even for the tech savvy. You can’t beat HA for being able to interface with absolutely anything. There’s almost always already an integration written. It can do anything, and if you’re persistent enough you can kludge together a solution that works in exactly the way you need. You might even be able to hide all the kludge from your spouse. It’s also all free, because Paulus and a hundred other devs contribute their time for free and they’re amazing for it. Absolutely awesome for power users. But being simple or easy just isn’t one of its many, many pros.
I mean I was being flippant, but finding interests or passions and then finding affinity groups that do those things is a great way to meet people.
But also I just
Be more interesting
Yeah, based on OP saying low WAF, I’m guessing maybe he didn’t set up the content server? Ours is great, and I can read on my phone or 2-in-1.
It definitely looks it (for me the lighting and the eyes) but I don’t think it is. The bag in the bottom right might be puppy’s first food bag, and I don’t think I’ve seen many AI photos with just a partial thing like that that still obeys the laws of reality. If it’s AI, it’s heavily human involved to tweak things until it got perfect.
Also, my prediction is that big puts will be selling for way higher than their likelihood, because so many retail investors want to to fail. So even though the stock will go down, tons of people will lose money betting that.
I think the key is not good at shipping compared to themselves in the past. Same with Google.
They’re still better than the alternatives, but they’ve gotten much worse in quality all around, and they squeezed out competitors years ago so there’s no viable alternatives that aren’t WAY worse.
I can’t remember what channel, but somebody did an experiment with not doing the ridiculous thumbnails and got way fewer views. Which sort of gets at the point of this article: the are huge swaths of people that are clicking on them and that sounds super foreign to a lot of us.
Something something promissory estoppel!
Oh no! But won’t someone think about what the rent-seekers need? They worked hard for years to capture government regulation allowing them to be not only middle-men, but the only middle men allowed! How can they be expected to turn around and do what the government asks? This is a travesty!
Yeah but I don’t want to watch at 1080p with bad sound! It’s just annoying because they already let you download off your friends servers. You’d think it would be super easy to program as an option.
Except Plex insanely makes you stream it to each person, instead of letting people download and sync streaming. So good luck doing it with more than two people unless you’re watching a 1080p movie on a beast with an amazing Internet connection.
Yeah, I’m not saying Libre office isn’t…fine, or that development tools on Linux aren’t good or even better. But the idea that all Microsoft software sucks is as demonstrably false as an opinion statement can be. They’re really good, and with Office the alternatives aren’t close. Do most people need all the functionality in Excel or PowerPoint? No, but they’re great pieces of software and ignoring that is just plain tribalism.
ALL of their software sucks
Let’s not get carried away. Office suite (particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel) is some of the best software I’ve used. Crazy powerful, easy to use, consistent across iterations. Outlook could have some QOL things but it’s still better than Thunderbird. VS Code is awesome too.
They used to be good. They were cheap, you could flash them with custom firmware, they were very need friendly. They just gradually got worse and worse though, starting with them wanting to keep you in their app. It’s always garbage profit seeking. No one is happy being good to consumers if they can make more money not doing so.
That’s not a conspiracy theory that’s like entry level MBA stuff.
Wizards Of The Coast: Ha, it will never affect us if we change our licensing and hurt the little guy. End consumers don’t care and no one reads these things anyway. “We have an announcement about changes to our EULA!”
Internet and DND community revolt, Pathfinder 2 sees a massive boost, and content providers are scared now.
Unity: Surely nothing similar could happen to us if we change our licensing? “We have an announcement about changes to our EULA…”
An even better title would be “‘Study’ by firm pushing new technique finds old technique is bad.”
