  • I’m probably more of a git noob than you

    Doubt =D

And more to the point, I do appreciate a good user interface with information at a glance or click instead of having to type out a command each time.

Agreed with good user interface, my criticism was specifically for the vscode default git plugin which I was not compatible with at all but it could be just a me-problem

  • Git has some counterintuitive commands

Yeah… ‘git merge main’ weirds me out because my brain likes to think the command is merging current branch TO main instead of other way around

Some IDEs have extra non-native Git features like have inlined “git blame” outputs as you edit (easily see a commit message per-line, see who changed what, etc.), better diff/merge tooling (JetBrain’s merge tool comes to mind), being able to revert parts of the file instead of the whole file, etc.

Okay this sounds very good, so they actually improve git cli feature wise in addition to implementing GUI for it.

    Thanks for the reply!

Going to check out if there’s git integration, because I couldn’t easily find it.

Asking this because I’m noob, not elitist ass: Why a git integration in ide instead of using the cli? I’ve been working only on few projects where git is used, but the cli seems to be a ton easier to understand how to work with than the git integration in vscode which I discarded after few attempts to use

  • No one is handwaving away problems we are yet to solve, except the people just claiming “must have been gods”

There has always been and probably always will be new problems to solve. Scientists have been working on trying to understand and resolve those problems, and we know so much more today than we did 100 years ago. We take evolution theory as a fact, because it’s the theory that has been proven billions of times again and again, and we keep finding more proof for it. Just because we might not know everything yet, is not an argument against the only working theory we have.

Your Christ illusion has been proven zero times

  • Evolution theory DOES explain where we came from, and the theory is proven billion times over and over. It’s insanity to believe anything else. As Dawkins neatly put it, we have more evidence for evolution theory than we have for Holocaust.

but most atheists are aware of this or just handwave away the problem.

No, ‘atheists’ do not handwave problems found in scientific theories away but study it until it’s no longer a problem. What religion does is just says “it must be gods” and throws any reason to thrash bin

  • Yep, but we have tool for trying to understand it. It’s called scientific method, and it has so far been able to help us understand the mechanics of the universe without resorting to crazy claims such as “yeah must have been super powered aliens”, which is the only offer from religion.

I do get that there’s a chance that it’s all bogus, and that there really is or was a god that created everything in a way we have been able to measure it, but why exactly should I believe it? Which story should I believe? ‘In this world of a million religions everyone prays the same way’, the same human made stories written over centuries trying to explain the world around us. In this context religion seems nothing more than a predecessor to scientific method turned into crowd control tool.

  • Agreed, it can be very frustrating - and is often used for that very purpose, to let the person know they just wasted x amount of time to compose a message no one is going to even read let alone take seriously. But I do not think this is really a good indicator for someone being a child, it’s just intentional insult.

I tend to think they’re either young or generally underexposed to how human interaction works.

There’s a lot of us who are not very great at communications for various reasons. I personally might just lose interest in conversation and can’t get myself to put in the effort to actually contribute value to it and just phase out, and same happens online in a way. As fucking annoying it might be for the person I’m conversing with, it’s not intentional nor meant to insult
