  • In my case because I was in gifted classes so I got this idea that I was just brilliant and never needed to study for anything. Then as soon as a subject got hard enough for me to not ace it without effort I just quit instead of knuckling down and doing the work. Math was the only subject where I truly ran into a wall cause some of that stuff is just not at all intuitive, it’s loaded down with obscure rules and memorization, etc.

It felt less like instruction on how to use a vital tool to make my life easier and more like someone was intentionally making my life harder by making me learn math. It’s like someone came up to me and said ‘Oh, you’re walking 10 miles uphill? Here, since you’re going this way, carry this 40lb rock with you. it’ll be real useful at the end, trust me bro.’ And I was like ‘This is already a hard enough walk, the fuck am I carrying this rock for?’ so I set it down.

I have since picked some of it back up, and I now recognize the utility of learning it and wish I’d learned it when I was younger cause it’s even harder now.

  • Yeah, I got a 7-day ban for saying Luigi Mangione probably shouldn’t go to prison for what he did because they said I was inciting violence. They lifted it on appeal, but not before hitting me with a perma-ban for some bullshit about circumventing the ban with other accounts (I’ve had exactly one account on reddit in the ~14 years I’ve been there), so I decided they were getting a bit too fashy for my taste and started looking for greener pastures.

  • Reddit admins started getting quite a bit more fashy banning people for even just upvoting certain stuff. I got caught up in that and hit with a bullshit temp ban, then before it got lifted on appeal I got hit with a total bullshit perma ban. It was also lifted on appeal, but by that point I was fed up and went looking for alternatives. I still use reddit a tiny bit, mostly posting questions on subs there when there isn’t a community here or there is but it has like 12 members and hasn’t seen a post in 3 months or whatever.

  • I had a series of dreams over the course of about 15 years that all took place in some (presumably fictional) town. I don’t really remember most of them anymore save the last one (which involved the FBI building a huge facility on the east side of town because they were investigating everyone in town for some reason, along with some more nefarious stuff.)

But what’s weird is that, more than a decade since the last dream, I still remember numerous very clear details about that town. I can tell you which streets I’ve lived on in it, who my neighbors were, what kind of vehicles they drove, where they worked or went to school, even stuff like the fact that my neighbor to the west (on the corner) in the 2nd house I lived in had an 11 year old son named Bobby who had Down’s syndrome. It’s like I lived there for years and years and knew everyone (it’s a pretty small town), only none of it or them actually exists outside of my brain.

  • I once dreamed that I was going to visit my parents and their neighborhood had turned into a cross between a zombie apocalypse and a warzone, there were gangs running around cutting people up in the streets and shit. I was dodging all these crazy people and managed to find one house that looked normal amidst the choas and carnage and was hiding behind a tree in the yard when some guy came up to me and was like ‘Oh hey mister, you don’t want to be hiding here, the folks who live here don’t take kindly to that sort of thing.’ Come to find out the house was owned by my parents, and when the guy found out that’s who I came to visit he was like ‘Oh shit you’re with them?! All of this is their fault! Fuck you man!’ and tried to attack me, but I woke up.
