By shuffling the look and feel of the product constantly they can give an impression of actual upgrades being made. The system looks different after your update, after all.

Microsoft already knows that anyone with technical knowledge is looking to dodge this update, they don’t need to make the regular users want to dodge it too.

I’ve got a GTX 1080 Ti and after a couple hours of finagling on initial install of Linux Mint I haven’t had any trouble at all. Nvidia ships some proprietary drivers you can use instead of the unofficial open source ones and nvidia-driver-535 has been getting it done no problem.

Other GPU models I can’t speak for, as I don’t own them, and I see some history of folks having trouble with Nvidia. But I got mine done with barely a hitch.

Does your filter recognize whitespace? Including a space before and/or after X should catch the posts about the platform while not filtering out posts that just have an X inside a word somewhere. X isn’t going to be a single letter surrounded by space unless it’s referring to the platform.

Unfortunately your protest has done nothing but help them.

The best way to stick it to reddit these days is to not interact with it at all. Don’t add to their data store, don’t give them traffic, don’t click on them in search results. Don’t protest-edit your content because you’re just helping them separate wheat from chaff.

The modding scene is (or, well, was) pretty active though, if you’re into that. There are still official te4 forums, but most folks hang out in the discord (yeah, I know.) including a couple old head modders that are pretty familiar with the codebase if you’re trying to do something exceptionally interesting with it.

I played this in high school circa 2013. There was a server up 24/7 that hosted an infinite loop of the Venice map that always had the highest server pop. You’d occasionally find other servers going, or be able to host your own and get randoms, but more often than not, I played a TON of Venice for about a year. Good times.

I entered SS13 with the ssethtide and I stuck around past the worst of it but I haven’t logged in since probably 2021. Is it a good time to come back and see what’s up? I enjoyed high population servers and a lot of people were leaving with the tide around and before when I did. What’s an average server pop these days?

The overcomplexity of the game is part of why I love it so much but it’s also what drove me off of it, because I couldn’t figure out how to run an offline server to practice roles and I wasn’t trying to do my first day of engineering or doctoring on a public lobby if I could help it. I had a lot of fun in Mining and Cargo and occasionally just faffing about as an assistant helping Botany grow weed or bringing monkeys to the chef - but I’d like to learn “a real job” one of these days (he says, knowing exactly how pissed off everyone gets if mining or cargo either die or are understaffed). And most folks didn’t usually seem inclined to adopt assistants, unfortunately. Remember folks, adopt wandering assistants and then spay and neuter them because unattended assistants will cook their hands off trying to break into the armory.

No really, I installed Mint on my home machine less than a week ago. Trying to get my buddy to switch too before Win11 comes knocking.

Thanks to you and jettrscga for letting me know! I think that may not have always been the case, I seem to remember Helldivers pretty specifically didn’t have Linux support when I was last playing it. Or maybe I’m just crazy.

Apex I for sure just assumed wouldn’t work, without trying, because of aforementioned kernel anti-cheat. Good to know I was wrong there even if I don’t like the game that much myself.

Arch is a bitch and a half to install on anything because it doesn’t come with anything. You want network drivers? Fucking install them yourself, asshole, Arch don’t do fuck all without being commanded to.

As a result, the only thing Arch actually does come prepackaged with is the sense of smug superiority you get upon completing a build with it.

Things with kernel anti-cheat aren’t going to work unless they have a Linux version. So no Helldivers, Valorant, Apex Legends, etc.

Other than that, I have yet to find a game that doesn’t work under Proton. They’ll tell you it’s Windows-only until you go into the game’s steam compatibility settings and set it to Proton Experimental and then it just installs and runs no problem. Even things I didn’t really expect to work, I booted and played Trepang2 under Proton just last night, not a problem in sight.

I dream of an open source car. Something simple but reliable, say a legally-distinct 2004 Honda Accord, bog standard, no frills, no detail package options, just A Cheap Car with standardized parts and open source software. It’s the only car the company makes, you can buy one for 10k or build your own for 6k out of parts and a couple months worth of weekends, car nerds will fork the software for infinite tuning customization, and it doesn’t report your location back to headquarters. Parts are standardized across every car we’ve ever made so your local parts store will have them in stock. The new model year is the same car as last year, we just built some fresh ones for people to buy new.

I have no way of making this dream a reality. But I dream of it nonetheless. American car culture has gone off the rails, and the number of people I see already driving around old 5-owner Hondas and Toyotas and Buicks tells me that there is definitely a market for a cheap basic car that runs.

When I was a kid, I got a stereo system for my birthday one year alongside two big speakers. The speakers, if they stayed powered while the stereo was off, would receive faint traces of radio signal. So round midnight when the house is quiet I could always hear faint voices, just barely loud enough to hear, but quiet enough to make you wonder if you’re really hearing it. Nearly scared the dick off me, I thought my parents gave me a haunted stereo. No, turns out it was just haunted by the ghosts of local AM radio.
