Plot twist: the ad is the real Tom Hanks, and the version calling it fake is an AI created by a rival dental plan.

You guys are laughing right now, but as the only real celebrity on Lemmy, identity theft is not a joke! Millions of celebrities would suffer every year!

Imagine what would happen if some random Internet weirdo uses AI to impersonate me, super serious Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie, and make me say extremely silly things that I would never say in public on the internet? Would you still think impersonating a celebrity is funny?

I think this type unauthorized use of somebody’s likeness is going to define the next wave of AI image and video generation. Sadly a lot of people will fall for it because they don’t know how good it is.

There was that teenager in Spain who was arrested for making nude AI models of his female classmates. I’ve had friends match with people on Tinder who then later send nude pics of them - AI generated - along with a demand for money or they will misuse it. It’s going to get a whole lot worse before the public is educated about this.

But that’s just the nasty small scale stuff. We’re going to see celebrities and public personas in all kinds of questionable roles, appearing so authentic that average people won’t notice it’s deepfaked. Great.

It’s going to be a scammers wet dream for a while.

That was fantastic! Ignore the voice, listen to the story. It’s amazing!

Very slight off vocal inflections that you subconsciously know aren’t him because you’ve seen the real him act in so many movies.

Plus, you knew it was a fake when you clicked it. If you hadn’t then chances are it would seem like a regular ad you’re trying to skip.

It was the speed of delivery, the tempo.

When he was younger he rushed through his jokes but landed on the punchlines, as he got older he paused everywhere for emphasis because he knows he’s funny and can sell it.

This voice was a mix with those characteristics canceled out so it sounds a bit less performed.

I love this idea. Unfortunately, I think it’s just a slightly unnatural vocal performance. Even though AI can perfectly replicate voices tonally, they can’t truly generate the same cadence and inflections, or sometimes even get close without a good deal of human assistance. I suspect this will change over time. As with ChatGPT, we’ll be looking to AI to solve the problem of AI mimicking humans too well.

One thing is the pace is very, very consistent. Real humans don’t usually maintain that level of consistency, they’ll speed up, slow down, some words come out fast, some come out slow, etc.

Hello. I’m Tom Hanks. The Dental Healthcare industry has lost its credibility, so it’s borrowing some of mine.

How do we know that it isn’t the real Tom Hanks promoting the dental plan, and the AI saying that he had nothing to do with it?

Because as we all know, A-list celebrities are all too smart and have too much integrity to promote random product for money!

So, just like the real Tom Hanks would never promote dental plans, if you ever see famous celebrities like Matt Damon or Kim Kardashian promote dumb things like cryptocurrency, remember, these are not real people, they are all advertisments made by AI impersonators!

It’s ok Tom, . Ryan Reynolds is talking to us right now about a financial plan. It was the first thing that showed up in bing so I know it’s not a lie.

Don’t listen to the fake news media! Come on down to the Celebrity Tooth and RV Superstore, endorsed by Tom Hanks himself, and get you a tooth, camper, or RV cleaning today. If it ain’t shining, we ain’t shining. And we’ll wash it again that day for free!

The whole doom of AI has definitely gone in a different direction than I expected. I mean, maybe this is just the first act, you know, maybe they’ll still work up to replacing and killing off human kind, but trying to pretend to be the popular kids and entertain us, wasn’t on my AI apocalyptic bingo card.

AI is a too widely used term.

It’s not the same a self-aware AI entity than a dumb AI assited tool.

It’s the same with the joke that AI’s are taking the jobs that we want to do instead of the ones that nobody wants. JFC, there is no humanoid robot replacing manual labor, just trained AI software/tools/APIs that run on computers and perform some specific and somewhat complex tasks.

Well it’s honestly a good step, you destabilize us by making it hard to trust anything is real once they really get cooking with deepfake porn and AI dental commercials.
